GLOBAL PARTNERS OF UROLOGY
AT A GLANCE
A Distinct Identity
Global Partners of Urology (GPU) was created by a group of urologists to fulfill a need to help sustain an expansion of urologic care in central Africa. In a region of the African continent lacking specialized medical care, Rwanda has developed its own specialists who treat the general population of over 12 million people. And with that growth, comes greater needs to support the physicians through advanced on site surgical training and equipment support. Partnering with urologists, residents and medical students from the University of Rwanda, GPU has participated in surgical training in the areas of urologic oncology, endoscopy, and laparoscopy. Additionally, urology residents from American accredited programs have come to learn and experience medical and surgical care in Rwanda. We have also provided equipment as well as replacements for the endoscopic and laparoscopic suite in the main tertiary public hospital in Kigali, Rwanda. The desperately needed equipment we have donated in 2018, 2019, and 2021 is being used on a daily basis to treat thousands of patients who have no other means of care. Our current project is to assist the expansion of urology in Butare, Rwanda where a recent graduate of urology from the University of Rwanda, Dr. Innocent Rudaharishkaya has been stationed. This hospital serves a population of 4 million people and we plan to outfit an endoscopic suite for Dr. Innocent Rudaharishkaya to utilize. We hope you can get involved to help make a major impact in the sustainable delivery of health care in rural and urban central Africa
