One Year Plan
The presence of urology has expanded to the south of the country in Butare. CHUB (University Teaching Hospital of Butare, https://www.chub.rw) is another tertiary care center serving the city of Butare as well as 4 million residents of the surrounding rural areas. The hospital is in need of endoscopic and open surgical tools and we hope to fill that gap. The operating rooms, urologic surgeons, anesthesiologists, support staff and cystoscopy suites are on site, but the equipment needed to deliver adequate care is lacking. GPU wants to fill the gaps missing by bringing full complement of endoscopic equipment to serve the needs of the community. We are raising funds now and planning for the first urologic teaching workshop at CHUB this year in 2023.
Three Year Plan
Within three years we hope to complement the growing urologic community that serves the public sector of Rwanda in several ways.
1. Establish a fund to provide education, equipment, and research opportunities for both Rwandan and American urology residents and staff.
2. To continuously support Rwanda’s urologic infrastructure needs to allow the continuity of care of all public patients in country. As well, to demonstrate our perseverance and ability to provide long term support

3. Enhance on site training with advanced courses of urologic surgery and provide more opportunities for American urology residents to participate and learn from colleagues in Rwanda.

4. Provide travel scholarships opportunities for Rwandan urologists for education that cannot be performed locally
